See what makes you shine.

Can you express in a few words what makes you “noble, shiny, and awesome”? I mean your unique talents—the qualities that make you special and let you shine (a lovely expression I learned from Wendy Palmer).
When was the last time you considered if you’re using your strengths in a way that brings you joy and fulfilment? Or perhaps you feel the desire to use them differently or elsewhere?
A dear friend of mine is exploring these very questions.
Recently, he reached out, asking me to complete a questionnaire about his talents and qualities. At 50, he’s considering a career shift—maybe a radical one—and has sought professional guidance. I was honoured by his request, and it was a joy to answer. (And yes, it triggered some self-reflection too.)
I couldn’t help but smile, remembering his dry, uplifting humour and lovingly provocative remarks. He’s a communicator at heart, an incredible listener, and a connector. He naturally brings lightness to conversations and helps people feel heard.
He could make a wonderful teacher. Kids would be lucky to have him.
But these are just my ideas.
He has no hurry.
He’s taking his time to explore where he stands and what his options are.
Taking time to notice
Noticing is such a valuable practice, and one I’m working to nurture in myself too.
As human beings, we tend to jump to conclusions and rush into action.
By standing still and expanding our view of ourselves, our journey, and the landscape around us, we can deepen our understanding of who we are, our qualities and strengths, and who we’re becoming. Noticing helps us see and explore possibilities more clearly.
The first step to any real change is noticing.
I’m in noticing mode too, just like my friend.
What about you? As you read this, what comes to mind about your journey and talents? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below or feel free to reach out to me directly.
By the way, during our latest Renewal Café conversation, we explored our unique strengths and reflected on the opportunities our talents create for us.
