How Much Is Enough?

When ‘Enough’ Is More Than Plenty

Lately, the word “enough” seemed to follow me through the day, surfacing in conversations like a quiet invitation to do less—and feel good about it.

It began with a friend sharing her decision to stop worrying about a steady income. “We have enough,” she said simply. She spoke of the satisfaction of renovating their house themselves, the pleasure of gardening. “Right now we have sweet strawberries,” she exclaimed. “Everything feels so wonderfully organic.”

Later, the word returned when another friend told me he had paused the marketing push for their training programme. “We have enough sign-ups—maybe fewer than we hoped for, but it’s enough to go ahead.”

What relief, I thought, to decide that a small group is just big enough.

That evening, I joined an online conversation about Inner Leadership, hosted by my friend Tenneson Woolf. And there it was again—enough. This time, it turned inward: “I’m enough.” I am okay, just as I am.

Soon, the conversation moved to our endless curiosity—our shared hunger for learning and growth. We acknowledged that we never really have enough knowledge or understanding. There’s always more to explore, more connections to make.

And yet, for the moment, it was enough. No pressure. No overwhelm. Just a shared breath of reflection, joy, and quiet delight.

In a world that constantly asks for more, the word “enough” feels like a soft rebellion. It invites us to slow down and savour the enoughness of the present moment—how things are: sufficient and abundant. A quiet kind of generosity. A gentle freedom. A joy in what already is.

What does enough look like for you, right now?
