Storytelling is both: telling stories and listening to stories. How do we learn story telling? Anecdote advises to start with story listening. If we know what we are looking for we also know how to tell a story.
My drawing was inspired by Anecdote; see the latest post: Why good storytellers are great story-listeners. There are many reasons to cultivate storytelling at work (I blogged about it earlier). But how do we learn storytelling? I find Anecdote’s advice to start with story listening useful because if we know what we are looking for we also know how to tell a story.
a story describes what happened;
a good story helps you see what happened;
a great story helps you feel what happened.
I took Anecdote’s advice by heart. By noticing stories and by listening to stories more attentively I not only train my story spotting senses but also my own storytelling.
Storytelling is both: telling stories and listening to stories.
