How to break free from overthinking with the help of “Talking with Pixies”

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the chatty voices in your head? You know, that inner self-talk that can be quite annoying and confusing.
I recently did.
The Pixies were back.
In fact, they never really left—they’d just been quiet for a while. They love moments of doubt. That’s when they come back.
They were chatting away again. I woke up to a complete chatter storm in my head.
“You should blog about why you care for the Liberating Journey!”
“Stop worrying about your social media posts; they don’t need to be perfect.”
“Have you tried to announce your workshop in this LinkedIn group or that one?”
“Relax—enjoy your writing, share what you care about.”
“It was your goal to share stories and inspire, and not write sales pitches.”
“Why do you work on your creative Friday?”
My talkative companions meant well but left me feeling confused about how to promote my upcoming workshops. Share or sell? I struggled with my writing for social media. That’s when contradictory voices started whispering to me. It felt messy and confusing. I ended up rewriting blog posts and LinkedIn posts until my original stories and ideas were completely lost. I almost gave up writing.
It reminded me of Talking with Pixies, a wonderful Liberating Structures. It makes inner voices visible, especially in the context of conflicting thoughts about personal goals. It helps identify beliefs and assumptions that may hinder progress.
My bubbly friends had some wisdom to share. They weren’t just nagging—they wanted me to break free from my doubts and find joy again in sharing what I’m passionate about without second-guessing every word.
So, I decided to stop overthinking, let go of that pressure, and simply start sharing stories once more.
I told my pixies that all was fine and that they could take a rest.
With that, I took a deep breath, opened my laptop, and began writing again.
Do you recognize the feeling of challenging inner voices pushing you in contradictory directions? Leave a comment. I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences—share them in the comments!
